Sonye Locksmith
BIO
Sonye Locksmith is a self-taught visual artist. To manifest the gifts ingrained in him by the Universe, he chooses paint as his medium. His primary art style is abstract, but he enjoys exploring the boundaries of his comfort zone by trying other styles. He uses life as his source of inspiration. While soul searching through art, Locksmith came to a realization: art heals him in ways that no human can.
Artists that Locksmith admires include the following legends and personal friends who encourage his artistic passion: Paul Jackson Pollack, Salvador Dali, Van Gough, Sebastian Pierre, John Alamo, Kevin A. Williams, Layes Hussain and McKinson Souverain.
Locksmith is a graduate of Bethune Cookman University in Daytona Beach, FL, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in communications.
This year, Sonye was accepted in two Juried Exhibitions, where he placed first place in one and had five paintings accepted in the second. He also landed his first interview feature in Blaque Canvas Magazine. His latest achievement is having his “Formless Edition 5” piece featured in E-Flux magazine. E-Flux magazine is one of the largest publishing platforms in the United States. In September of this year, he had his first pop up art show in New York City, selling five out of ten paintings.
STATEMENT
I use life as my source of inspiration. While soul searching through art, I came to a realization: art heals me in ways that no human can. My mantra is, “Without imagination, there can be no evolution.”
