Marija Svetieva
BIO
Marija Svetieva, M.A. in Fine Arts, was born in Skopje, in 1960. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Graphics and Graphic Design in 1987. The same year she became a member of the Macedonian Painters Association. Obtaining a scholarship, in 1990 she specialized graphics in Bologna, Italy. In the period 1987 - 2021, Marija Svetieva has participated in 291 exhibitions and 49 solo exhibitions throughout Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Russia, Thailand, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, etc.
STATEMENT
As a graphic artist I aspire to use all the traditional and experimental techniques available to me as an artist of this branch and recently started to use the newer art styles such as the digital graphic arts. Through my artworks I wish to show the state of nature and our surroundings and to hopefully reach more people to help them understand that caring for the ecology is the same as caring for the people around. Through my art I aim to help people understand and learn to love each other and that we should try as individuals to better ourselves.
Frida Kahlo
My inspiration is based on Frida Kahlo. To me she is an open minded and free spirited artist that was way ahead of her time. I wanted to recreate an abstract look that portrays her free spirited mind and nature through a abstract portrait which can also be seen as what a woman should be - strong, calm and confident in herself, with strong a character and belief in her abilities.
