ARTIST STATEMENT

I grew up in 1960s Los Angeles with the warmth of the sun; palm trees; ocean breezes; and the sound of

cool jazz. The unique quality of the Southern California sunlight and my love of gardens inspire many

features in my art.

I love using different mediums. My work ranges from representational to abstract. The medium is

selected according to my mood and what it is I want to achieve: oils when I decide to create calmness in

landscapes; acrylic when I want to enjoy the quick strokes and movement to create abstracts; oil pastels,

with their many colors and creamy texture, which provide the ability to create wonderful shading for

floral subjects with the warmth of my fingers and thumbs.

Travels in Baja California, Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela provide the picante for many of my

paintings. The ancestral knowledge and spirituality learned in those countries are reflected in my

painting “Eruption” which is exhibited at Caliente, a Celebration of Caribbean, Latin and Hispanic

American Art.
