Tillman Jackson

Pandemic, The Light Therein

(August 2020)

I have always been a 'doodler', drawing cartoon characters on bits of paper or even fruit as a kid, but I was never really that interested in art. I enjoyed construction work and operating the John Deer or CAT machines. I discovered my interest and talent for sketching and painting in 2002 when I was temporarily unemployed and very bored.

My mind is kind of like a television with all kinds of images in my head. When I would see something interesting in my thoughts, I would translate that to canvas, and found that I could do it with exact precision - usually using an ink pen or color pencils and markers, Some of my earlier work was very intricate and detailed, as I surprised even myself.

BIO

I am Tillman Jackson born and raised in Los Angeles, California in 1966. I am one of eight children, all of whom are gifted with tremendous talents in music, art and writing. I have always been a meticulous and detailed person when performing any task, even mundane things like cooking or yard work - which is in direct contrast to my life experiences living in South Central L.A. Perhaps, it is my various experiences and deep imagination that give my drawings/paintings, I believe, a unique quality.
