Bio & Statement
Jean Catherine Howard moved to South Florida in 1990 to work as a photo editor and photographer for The Palm Beach Post. She began to teach after she and her husband adopted two sons and worked with the Center for Creative Education for over a decade. Jean taught art at Sacred Heart School for several years while her youngest son attended School there and she returned to CCE 1n 2018.
She earned an M.A. in Photojournalism from Ohio University’s Viscom program and a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri. At this time Jean primarily uses watercolor in her drawings on recycled seed paper which represents a variety of life’s metaphors. She continues to document mothers who have lost a son to gun violence in Palm Beach County for the Mothers Against Murderers Association.
Jean lives in West Palm Beach with her husband, Willie who is a working charter captain along with two dogs, Sophie and Fern and two cats, Max-Cat and Molly.
Covid has disrupted lives, changed lives and ended lives in the U.S. and around the world. As I thought about the virus I always think about our communities and families a and how much we are all personally affected by this virus.
