Artist's Bio

Carolyn Sharon Goodridge was born on October 21, 1960, In the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1963. Goodridge received her Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1997. Goodridge's study and practice of Eastern philosophy, including Zazen and Yoga spans from 1978 until present. Her paintings are inspired by the concepts of Dr. Masaru Emoto's Messages from Water, Edward Maryon's Marcotone Sound-Color Theory, Rupert Sheldrake's Morphic Resonance Theory and finally, theoretical physicist, Dr. Michio Kaku's String Theory. Her love of quantum and theoretical physics and biology along with her Zen-Calypso upbringing, rich in spirituality, music, dance and color, inspires Goodridge to create art that points to pure consciousness, light and love.

Goodridge has shown in distinguished spaces such as the United States Embassy in Rome, Italy, and the New York Guggenheim Museum. Exhibited and collected widely, Goodridge is Founder and Executive Director of Art Impact™ International, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering, nurturing and expanding artists to enrich and inspire humanity.

Statement

According to Dr. Kaku, our world is made up of vibrating strings. He says, "The mind of God is music resonating in eleven dimensions throughout hyperspace!" Through synesthesia, I hear and feel the resonance of color as sound, subtle yet visceral vibration. I experience the color of blue, for instance, as a phenomenon which lies within a dimension of being - within which I can travel through. For me, all theories point to musical resonance. This idea informs my art practice using both Eastern philosophy and Western science, giving a visual voice to my frequent dreams, travelling through the cosmos. Scientific and spiritual languages have helped me to formalize and express my subjective, quite abstract world. Through study and love of science, religion, music and poetry I am thoroughly and vigorously inspired to create organic paintings with cosmological themes.

Who and what inspires me? The art of the abstract impressionists, the music of the minimalists and world fusionists, Inventors like Nikola Tesla, freedom fighters such as Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mohandas Karamchandi Gandhi. Using organic and natural substances such as beeswax, raw pigments, tree sap, glass and slate, my paintings further my attempts to balance Eastern with Western values. Seemingly spontaneous natural, organic forms blend with curvilinear or geometric shapes, smooth and rough texture, and dull and reflective surfaces. As my art is fundamentally a visualization of spirit, I hope these encaustic pieces resonate with the heart and spirit of other human beings.
